Hot Spots! After years of helping people organize, these are the most common areas needing to be tackled. Some are so simple, but can honestly be life-changing! I am choosing the products just to give an idea. There are so many options out there and you will need to pick somthing that works for your particular need.
keys: a designated spot for your keys
Although this is not a new concept, this is still a huge waste of time for so many people. It may not be keys in every case, but phones, glasses, remotes, wallets, ID’s are all regularly lost items. I highly recommend a key bowl, tray or holder that can accomodate the things you lose the most and want quick access to. I put scissors, a utility knife, pens, a hairclip, nail clippers, screwdrivers and a couple other things in my key bowl. It has saved me so much time and frustration!
papers and mail: 90% of my clients have paper clutter
To me the best solution is a 3-tier paper tray and filing cabinet or box. I have noticed people have issues with filing cabinets, but I think it’s one of the best inventions ever! It works! There is no better solution. Because so much is online now, most people can just get a filing box rather than a whole cabinet, but the basic idea of filing folders is the best solution!
The 3-tier paper tray is for incoming mail and can be labeled incoming, to do and in progress as an example. Once taken care of, the papers can be filed or tossed.
*I suggest opening your mail immediately. Toss everything you don’t need and organize the rest in the filing system.
shoes:
Almost all houses I have worked in have shoe issues. Often in family homes, there is a need for entryway organization. But most commonly there is just an overabundance of shoes and perhaps surprisingly men as much as women! There are so many different shoe organizers and I have another specific blog about this, but here are 2 quick options that could be immediately helpful depending on your situation.
clothes:
Clothes are almost always an issue and particularly closets. There are so many different situations and preferences, but I have found these items particularly helpful. I also highly recommend using thinner space-saving and matching hangers for most of your hanging clothes.
garage:
Again this is such a simple solution, but actually life-changing! High capacity garage shelves with wheels. I like the 24″ wide versus the normal 18″ wide. I found mine at Costco. Everybody uses their garages differently, but there is often a need for garden tools to be organized as well as sports equipment. These cart organizers can be helpful.
kitchen:
There are so many areas to tackle in the kitchen, but here are some helpful ideas that can make a big difference.
cords:
Almost every home I has cord clutter. Although not always a priority, once you do get a space cleaned up, you really want it to stay looking nice and neat. Here are a couple great options for making cords more manageable.
And I will close this with a some random items that can possibly change your life! Hopefully you have found a couple ideas that you really need or at least you’re motivated to start organizing some of these spaces! Check out my Pinterest page for more ideas.
